Teammate Artem Lobov: Of course McGregor wants rematch with Mayweather

Get the Full StoryLobov: Minor adjustments need to be made but I feel that we can get the win if we did it for the second time. It s probably news MMA fans didn t want to hear, but Conor McGregor would love a boxing rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

That s according to teammate and friend Artem Lobov, who trains and spars with The Notorious at John Kavanagh s SBG Ireland in Dublin.

Of course McGregor would want a rematch . You re talking about the most competitive man on the planet, Lobov said in an exclusive interview with James Gray of Express Sport. Trust me, he wants that win and that win is very, very close.

McGregor and his team, of course, believe that they are more than capable of pulling off the upset with some minor adjustments.

Minor adjustments need to be made but I feel that we can get the win if we did it for the second time.

McGregor, 29, surprised many in his boxing debut by going 10 rounds with The Best Ever and landing a total of 111 strikes, which is more than some of Floyd s past opponents.

After an explosive start, McGregor started to fade in the middle rounds and, from that point, Mayweather began to take over with surgical precision, picking the Irishman apart before finishing the fight with a barrage of strikes in the 10th.

Although Lobov is interested in a second Mayweather bout, the Russian would prefer to see McGregor defend his lightweight title against Tony Ferguson.

I think I would like to see him defend the UFC lightweight belt, Lobov said. Tony Ferguson is a very tough fighter. He comes to fight. He is no p y. He fought everyone in the UFC.

Ferguson, 33, submitted Kevin Lee with a triangle choke at UFC 216 to become the promotion s first ever interim lightweight champion.

El Cucuy has one of the most unorthodox styles in the division but The Russian Hammer sees this as a weakness against McGregor.

But I feel that his style suits Conor really well. He does take quite a lot of punishment. Even if you look at his fight against Edson Barboza, he was diving for those crazy takedowns not because everything was going well in the stand-up. He was going because he was getting rapped on his feet.

I feel that Conor is a lot more precise and has more power in his arms and his hands. I feel it would be a quick night for Tony.

Despite his alleged interest in a rematch with Mayweather, McGregor is most likely to face Ferguson in a title unification bout in late-December or early next year. The last pay-per-view event of the year is UFC 219, which is scheduled to take place on Dec. 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Lobov, 31, will take on Andre Fili this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 118 at the Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland.
