Chelsea Handler’s Netflix Show Is Over After Two Seasons

Get the Full StoryAs for the “why,” that’s still up for debate. The Hollywood Reporter says that Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show Chelsea is done after two seasons. The show, which went from a thrice-weekly format to once-a-week in its second season, has reportedly been canceled by Netflix. “Ha, who’s the failure now???” probably thought the E! Network. But if you ask Chelsea Handler, it’s not like that. She chose to leave.

Chelsea explained the situation at length on social media yesterday. If you’ve been watching Chelsea or looked at Chelsea’s Instagram posts over the past year, then you know she’s gotten really fired up about politics, especially since the election. According to Chelsea, she has decided not to return to her show, and instead will focus full-time on getting involved. However, she isn’t breaking up with Netflix for good; she will continue to work with them on a documentary.

The person made happiest about this news is probably Angelina Jolie, who no longer has to worry about getting dragged on streaming TV by her bleached nemesis anymore.

Chelsea was Netflix’s first talk show, and it was kind of a mess from the get-go. Reviews weren’t great, her showrunner Bill Wolff high-tailed it out of there after three weeks, the second season switched from 27-to-40 minute episodes to full hour-long ones. Even guest stunts weren’t able to get the ratings up. But I’m sure all that has nothing to do with the show coming to an end. I’m also sure the cancellation of Chelsea has absolutely nothing to do with Netflix freeing up some cash to dump on a talk show hosted by David Letterman.

The remaining episodes of Chelsea will stream until the end of this year. But the show doesn’t have to end just because Chelsea wants to get out there and fight the orange cyst in the White House. I watched Chelsea almost every week, and I’ll be honest, there are parts I will legitimately miss. Starting with, and limited solely to, Chelsea’s dog Chunk. I wouldn’t hate it if Netflix reworked the show to something called Chelsea without Chelsea starring Chunk, with special guest appearances by my second favorite reason for watching, Fortune Feimster doing characters in bad wigs.
