Joe Rogan: I think the UFC is going to strip Conor McGregor of his lightweight title

Get the Full StoryUFC analyst Joe Rogan predicts that Conor McGregor will soon be stripped of his lightweight belt. Conor McGregor is still the UFC s lightweight champion, but it s been more than a year since he won it from Eddie Alvarez, and there have been calls for him to be stripped of his title. While McGregor spent much of 2017 pursuing and eventually getting a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, the UFC created an interim title, which Tony Ferguson won by submitting Kevin Lee in October.

So what s next for the lightweight division? Well with Khabib Nurmagomedov back in the fold with his emphatic win over Edson Barboza, it s possible we see Ferguson vs. Khabib next, with the winner taking on McGregor. Alternatively, as Dana White hinted in an interview with Kevin Iole, if McGregor is going to prolong his absence, then they d strip him of the belt and elevate Ferguson vs. Khabib to full title status. UFC analyst Joe Rogan believes that we will see McGregor lose his title.

I think they re going to strip him, because Conor s got 100 million in the bank, and he s having fun and talking expletive , and he s going to keep training, Rogan said via MMAjunkie . And he s going to make a big fight in the future, but I think Khabib and Tony is the big fight and expletive , they might even do that one in Russia. They re talking about doing a big fight in Russia.

McGregor s coach John Kavanagh said that it s early days but that the Irish superstar is making the decision on what makes sense for the next move. Kavanagh also said that if it was up to him, McGregor would be back in the Octagon in 2018.
