Cormier on Volkan training with Rockhold: What s Luke going to teach him? Luke can t beat me!

Get the Full StoryDaniel Cormier discussed how his AKA teammate Luke Rockhold has been training with his upcoming UFC 220 opponent. Daniel Cormier is facing Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 this coming weekend. Interestingly enough, one of the light heavyweight champion s longtime training partners in Luke Rockhold has been training in Florida with Cormier s very opponent.

Chael Sonnen pointed this fact out, saying he doubts there s zero drama in all of this.

Luke is smack dab in the middle of this thing, and everyone is acting like he s not. You ve got to be kidding me, Sonnen said. You ve got Daniel Cormier s oldest teammate training with Daniel Cormier s next opponent. You re telling me there s not some drama there? You bet your ass there s some drama there!

Luke packs up and leaves, goes to Florida. Turns out he s in the same room as Volkan, training with Volkan everyday. All of a sudden, Volkan thinks he can beat Daniel Cormier, Sonnen said. Okay, fair enough here, but who gave you that opinion? Is it your new teammate?

Daniel Cormier thinks this guy has no chance? Well where did he get that opinion? Certainly he called his old teammate and tenured friend Luke Rockhold, he said.

So I wonder where Luke sits in this thing. There s a chance that Luke just took the high road and said guys, ask anything you want, I tell you nothing, Sonnen said. I m not blaming Luke in any of this, but that s the elephant in the room.

Cormier appeared on a UFC Facebook Q&A where he simply shrugged it all off and took a bit of a jab at his friend and training partner from AKA.

Luke training with my opponent? Meh. It doesn t matter, Luke can t really help him. Luke can t beat me! Cormier said before laughing. What s Luke going to teach him?

With his main sparring partners in Cormier and Velasquez inactive for long periods, Rockhold decided to host his last fight camp with Ernesto Hoost s team. He has continued to stay in Florida for his upcoming interim title fight at UFC 221, but has constantly stated that American Kickboxing Academy will always be my home.
