The 2 Exercises That Helped Brie Larson Get a Toned Figure, According to Her Trainer

Get the Full StoryWhen she won the Academy Award for best actress in 2016 for her lead role in Room, Brie Larson was propelled into stardom. Since then, her career has taken off - and so has her fitness. She's been working with celebrity trainer and founder of LA fitness studio Rise Nation Jason Walsh, and her hard work is on display for everyone to see.

We chatted with Jason to hear about Brie's training program and what exactly helped her achieve her small waist and trim legs and arms. As with all of his other clients - Jessica Biel, Alison Brie, and Emma Stone, just to name a few - he works on weightlifting and functional strength training with Brie.

"It's kind of thought of and accepted that women are just weaker in the upper body," Jason told POPSUGAR. "Well, Brie is cranking out pull-ups for the first time in her life and she's doing box jumps over her hip height." And that's just the beginning. Jason said Brie is doing "things that weren't necessarily even in her thought process," including but not limited to heavy lifting.

You might think that lifting heavy weights will make you look manly or bulky, but Jason and all of his gorgeous, slim clients have proven that myth wrong. Regular strength training will build lean muscle mass in your body and help you shed more fat, so you'll end up getting that trim look that Brie has been rocking lately on the red carpet.

Many women, when they first start lifting weights, tend to focus exclusively on the lower body by doing deadlifts, squats, and lunges. While these movements are extremely effective and necessary, Jason insists you "can't forget about the upper body and the shoulders," which is precisely why he has Brie doing pull-ups.
