Kevin Feige Addresses All-Female MCU Team-Up Movie

Get the Full StoryConsidering how many great female characters there are in the MCU, it’s a bit silly that we’ll have had to wait eleven years for a female-led Marvel Studios movie. Fortunately, it looks like Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is set to join the pantheon currently occupied by iconic heroines like Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Zoe Saldana’s Gamora and Tessa Thompson’s Valkryie.

In fact, the latter was so well received in last year’s Thor: Ragnarok that she and several other notable MCU actresses approached Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige with a plan for an all-female Marvel movie team-up. Now, in an interview with Vulture, Feige explained his perspective on the idea, saying:

“It is all about figuring out when and how. But by the way, many of them have already filmed additional scenes in upcoming movies, so some of that is gonna come sooner rather than later. All of them will be seen again.”

Hmm. Well, that’s a pretty non-commital answer. I get that he can’t exactly announce plans for a movie on a whim, and no matter how awesome the idea of the MCU’s most kickass women teaming up is, they’d need an in-universe reason to join up. Still, that can’t be too hard to figure out, especially if Avengers 4 acts as a very soft reset button on some of the plotlines that have been developing since 2008’s Iron Man.

Also, it’s got to count for something that, for all the ways they screwed up in 2017, Warner Bros. and Patty Jenkins totally knocked Wonder Woman out of the park, creating a bona fide cultural phenomenon out of the superhero. Feige must be itching for a piece of that pie now, so let’s hope they figure out the when and how pretty damn soon!

In the meantime, we’ll see the majority of Marvel’s women appearing in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, as well as The Wasp share equal billing with Ant-Man in Ant-Man and The Wasp on July 6th. The studio’s first female-fronted movie, Captain Marvel, will then follow those two, arriving on March 8th, 2019.
