Gustafsson fires back at DC: You lost your way back to the belt

Get the Full StoryAlexander Gustafsson got the last laugh against Daniel Cormier. Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier showed mutual respect both before and after their championship tilt at UFC 192, but there is a new rivalry brewing between the two top light heavyweights.

Things kicked off online when Gustafsson, 31, called out Cormier s teammate Luke Rockhold in an Instagram post. Cormier, who edged out a split decision win over Gustafsson in 2015, blasted The Mauler for calling out a man coming off a loss and mocked the Swede in a series of tweets.

Nice timing Alexander kick him while he s down huh . I got a better idea tho he doesn t fight you next. He fights Robert Whitaker, I mean sometimes that happens right. You lose your way into a title shot! #thegustafsonway Daniel Cormier dc_mma February 15, 2018

It was tough because I fought him that way. I could have made the whole fight look like round 1. Think about this tho. He lost a 5 round stand up fight to me. By the end of the fight he was the one wrestling lol https: t.co peOEGKEyq6 Daniel Cormier dc_mma February 15, 2018

Gustafsson, a two-time UFC light heavyweight title challenger, fired back at DC on Friday, mocking the former Olympian for having been reinstated as the official champion after originally losing to Jon Jones at UFC 214.

Jones, the UFC s most controversial star, knocked Cormier out in the third round but tested positive for steroids. His win was overturned to a No Contest and Cormier was reinstated as the official champ.

Gustafsson s latest post will come as a blow to Cormier, as the former Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix winner has struggled to come to terms with both of his losses to Bones .

But the 38-year-old fan favorite is back in the winner s column and will look to become a simultaneous two-division champ when he challenges Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title at UFC 226. The pay-per-view is scheduled to take place on July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
