Ray has new UFC deal: It was my fault for fighting out my contract

Get the Full StoryAfter fighting out of his contract in July 2017, Stevie Ray has signed a new four-fight deal with the UFC and will face Kajan Johnson in March. Eight months ago, Stevie Ray fought the last fight on his UFC contract when he was knocked out for the first time in his career by Paul Felder at UFC Fight Night 113. Now, after several months of uncertainty, the Scottish lightweight has signed a new four-fight deal with the UFC, and will face Kajan Johnson at UFC Fight Night 127 in March.

Ray was desperate to get on the London card and ink himself a new contract, campaigning to fight the likes of Diego Sanchez and Mairbek Taisumov in the English capital. The Scotsman will fill in for the injured Rustam Khabilov to face Johnson on March 19th.

He revealed the news on his Facebook page on Sunday.

I can now announce I have Re-signed a 4 fight deal with the UFC and I am fighting in 4 weeks at UFC London. I will face Kajan Johnson.

I took a gamble with my career under some bad advice not realising I was risking not being resigned with the ufc I only ever thought i was risking the price in contract.

I want to thank Sean Shelby and the UFC for giving me another chance as it was my fault for fighting out my contract.

I also want to also thank my new manager Ali Abdelaziz for even making this possible he was willing to help me without even being signed with him which shows he s a legend!

Thanks to all my friends, family, coach s, team mates, my sponsors and all my fans that have continued to show ur amazing support throughout.

The journey continues

Prior to suffering a first round knockout loss against Felder, Ray 21-7 notched up consecutive decision victories over Joe Lauzon and Ross Pearson.

Johnson 22-12-1 is on a three-fight winning streak, last defeating Adriano Martins by third round knockout at UFC 215. It was recently revealed that he is the interim vice president of Leslie Smith s association, Project Spearhead.
