My New Favorite Face Mask Makes You Feel Like a Creepy Scientist in the Best Way

Get the Full StoryI'll admit it: I have a masking addiction. Multi-masking, mask-bingeing . . . you name it, I've tried it. My skincare addiction is so serious, in fact, that I even have a POPSUGAR Beauty Instagram series called "Mask Junkie," where all I do is put new and exciting masks to the test. But even I have limits, and when I received a box containing Dr. Jart's Shake & Shot Rubber Mask 12 , I thought I'd finally have to draw the line.

You see, I wasn't greeted by the packaging of a sheet mask or even a standard mud mask when I opened the box - I was greeted with the tiny, creepily-calm face of a rubberized baby. My office neighbor leaned over my desk and uttered a quiet "What the f ck, dude . . . ?" which, admittedly, I'd also been thinking. I've got a lot of weird stuff on my desk, but this was certainly one of the strangest. Once I read reviews of the mask, though, I resigned to give it a shot.

The best part about this whole skincare experience is that it makes you feel like Bill Nye the Science Guy.

The Shake & Shot mask comes in four different iterations: Soothing the one I tried! , Brightening, Hydro, and Firming. Each mask is supposedly suitable for sensitive skin of all sorts, and in my experience - as somebody with ultrasensitive, combination skin - it's true. The Soothing mask I tested is meant to calm and repair the complexion using Vitamin K3 and a special cocktail of soothing botanical ingredients.

Admittedly, the best part about this whole skincare experience is that it makes you feel like Bill Nye the Science Guy. The task of preparing the mask involves combining two packs of ingredients, shaking it all up in a special cup, then using a spatula to spread the mask all over your face. Then, over the course of the following 10-15 minutes, the consistency of the liquid mask turns rubbery, allowing you to peel the whole thing off in one fell swoop.

After I got past the creepy face on the packaging, I had an excellent masking experience with Shake & Shot. The cleanup was virtually nonexistent since I was able to peel it all off in one go, and the Soothing mask left my skin feeling cool as if I'd just applied aloe to a sunburn! and smooth.

Yes, it's weird-looking, and yes, it's a bit more expensive than your typical single-use mask. But overall, if you're looking for a fun mask to try during a "treat yourself" weekend, I can confidently recommend Dr. Jart's Shake & Shot Rubber Mask as a fun way to pass the time and pamper your skin! Check out photos of my experience below, then shop the mask to try it for yourself.
