Branch says Jacare is holding up potential fight in Brazil

Get the Full StoryDavid Branch is interested in fighting Jacare Souza, but the feeling might not be mutual. David Branch is doing what he can to get in the Octagon with another big fish. Branch, who is coming off a big knockout win over Thiago Santos, is trying to land a fight with longtime contender Ronaldo Souza. But according to the former WSOF champ, Jacare isn t all that interested in it.

A few days ago, Jacare tweeted about what fights he s looking for next:

I want a rematch against Yoel Romero or Kelvin Gastelum. These are fights that make sense for me at the moment. #rematch ufc danawhite seanshelby Ronaldo Jacar JacareMMA June 10, 2018

Neither of those seem very likely right now. Romero is coming off a very close battle with 185-pound champion Robert Whittaker, while Gastelum and Jacare just fought at UFC 224. Gastelum took a close split decision, but no one is exactly demanding a rematch.

So, enter Branch. After asking for the fight, he tweeted a couple of days later that it had been offered to him. But Jacare isn t feeling confident enough to sign on:

I just want to be clear to everyone I ve been offered to fight JACARE main event August 22nd in Brazil and he s not feeling confident enough to take the fight. arielhelwani DamonMartin bokamotoESPN sherdogdotcom NewYorkRic lthomasnews David Branch DavidcBranchMMA June 12, 2018

He mentions August 22nd there, but likely means September 22nd, where the UFC has an event scheduled in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Jacare is current ranked at number five at middleweight, while Branch is at seven. So the bout does make sense from a rankings perspective. We ll just have to wait and see if the UFC can get both fighters to agree to the fight, not just one.
