Zahabi: I want GSP to box Mayweather

Get the Full StoryGeorges St-Pierre s head coach, Firas Zahabi, wants to see the two-time UFC champ fight boxing superstar, Floyd Mayweather. Speculation about Georges St-Pierre s next UFC opponent has been ongoing for several months, but the former welterweight and middleweight champion s head coach, Firas Zahabi, has now said he wants GSP to box Floyd Mayweather.

Since Conor McGregor made the cross over from MMA to boxing to face Mayweather in August 2017, several other UFC fighters such as heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic have campaigned for a chance to step into the boxing ring. Now adding to that list, Zahabi revealed on the latest edition of the JRE MMA Show why he wants to see GSP fight Mayweather.

I want Georges to fight Mayweather. I keep bothering Georges you fight Mayweather, you fight him . He s like it s crazy . I know it s crazy. Transcription by MMA Nytt

They ll fight at a catch weight. Do you think Mayweather is worried about being concussed? He s fought all the top punchers in the world. He s just going to have to worry about Georges volume and reach but he can handle himself and Georges can handle himself. But the whole world is going to tune into that one.

A fight between St-Pierre and Mayweather seems very unlikely, not only due to the two men s size difference, but also given that Mayweather has made it clear he is not looking for any more fights after improving his boxing record to 50-0 with a TKO win over McGregor last year.

I m like Georges do it but Georges doesn t want to fight a smaller guy, doesn t want to call out a smaller guy, Zahabi said. So it s going to have to come from Mayweather. It s going to have to come from him.
