Jennifer Garner on the Stress That Led to Her Split: "I Could Cry Talking About It"

Get the Full StoryJennifer Garner opened up about the stress that led to her split from Ben Affleck after a decade of marriage. In an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, the 46-year-old actress said constant media attention put an additional strain on her marriage. "There was a solid decade, where there were five or six cars minimum - easily up to 15 or 20 on the weekends - outside of my house at all times. Looking back on that, I really feel the stress of it," she said. "I could cry talking about it."

Elaborating, Jennifer said that public scrutiny can often pressure a high-profile person to "make something happen." She explained, "You feel a pressure to hurry up and get married because you think that'll end the 'Are they engaged? Are they not?' That's true in the reverse, as well." Adding, "If there is any inkling of trouble, if the tabloids decide there's trouble, it can create trouble."

That being said, Jennifer said splitting from Ben in the public eye was not as difficult as undergoing the split itself. "Everybody says, 'Oh, you've had to go through this in public' - the public isn't what's hard. What's hard is going through it," she said.

Since splitting in 2015, Jennifer and Ben have maintained an amicable relationship and continue to coparent their three children. In fact, Jennifer recently shared a heartwarming message about her ex on Father's Day, with a post that read, "Our kids are lucky to have a dad who looks at them the way you look at them and loves them the way you love them."
