Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, And Ian McKellen Will Star In The “Cats” Movie

Get the Full Story“Memoryyyyy…I still get chills when I think…of how awkward it was when….a man in a spandex cat suit slunk up to me in the audience of Caaaaaats.” Can you tell I’m still traumatized by the time fate dealt me the hand of hell by having me sit in an aisle seat for my first viewing of Cats? I am not an audience participation type, and so yeah – an aisle seat for Cats wasn’t a great experience. But I’m still a fan of Cats. So even though I cringed a little at “Taylor Swift,” I’m still into this news. Mostly because a film adaptation means there’s zero chance she’ll leap off the screen and do weird cat pantomimes around me while I try to hide behind my popcorn bag.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, Oscar-nominee Sir Ian McKellen, professional mobile karaoke singer James Corden, and star of Valentine s Day Taylor Swift have all been cast in the Cats movie. Universal announced the project back in 2016, with Les Mis rables director Tom Hooper directing. Shooting is set to begin in London in November.

Jennifer Hudson will play Grizabella, which means she’s got the best number Memory , and will almost be guaranteed to grab another Oscar nomination. Deadline reports that Ian McKellan will play Old Deuteronomy the cats’ elderly leader . It’s not known who James Corden or Taylor Swift will play. Only a few days ago, it was reported by Den of Geek that both Anne Hathaway and Rihanna were being courted for roles, but there’s no confirmation on that.

According to Broadway World, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is also writing a new song for the movie. It’s for Jennifer’s character, and is titled: “So much better than Nicole Scherzinger.” No, it’s rumored to be specifically for the white kitten Victoria. A solo just for Victoria? A cat who’s identity is basically that she’s young, perpetually smiling, and white, with a name that sounds suspiciously close to the word “victim“? Oh yeah, that’s totally the role for Taylor.
