A Commercial For The Nun Was So Damn Scary That YouTube Banned It From Their Site

Get the Full StoryIf you found yourself suffering from nightmares after watching the trailer for The Nun, then consider yourself lucky you didn't encounter a recent YouTube ad for the upcoming horror film.

The footage was only six seconds long, but faked viewers out by beginning the clip with a volume control icon, and then flashing the image of the film's titular demonic Nun - in other words, one hell of a jump scare. After a YouTube user warned others to "look away and or turn down the volume if you have anxiety or just straight up hate jumpscares" on Twitter, the video site banned the "violent and shocking" clip because it violated their policy.

Although Youtube responded to the tweet confirming that they'd taken the ad down, the chilling video in question can still be viewed at this link. For what it's worth, you'll have the support of The Nun's director Corin Hardy if you watch it, judging from his reaction to YouTube's decision in a Facebook post published on Tuesday. "Awwww maaannnnnn And we were having so much fun," he wrote, according to Entertainment Weekly.

For those of you who would rather not watch the ad or the trailer, The Conjuring spinoff is a prequel to the other films in the horror franchise's universe including the Annabelle movies , and follows a young nun Taissa Farmiga as she's haunted by visions of the same demon Ed and Lorraine Warren Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson see years later in The Conjuring 2. Because of her ability to see the demon, a priest recruits her for a trip to Romania so she can help investigate a series of spooky occurrences. Needless to say, it gets real f cked up, real fast.

The Nun drops on Sept. 7.
