Michael Bubl Says He’s Retiring From Music

Get the Full StoryA decorative gravy boat falls in slow motion to the ground, shattering into pieces as a gut-wrenching wail breaks out from the nation’s aunts in festive turtlenecks and seasonal holiday earrings. For who will sing the soundtrack to their holiday meals now?! Josh Groban? John Legend? All inadequate substitutions. Michael Bubl has announced over the weekend that he’s retiring from music.

43-year-old Michael Bubl spoke to the Daily Mail this weekend about his upcoming 10th studio album, Love, in what he claims is his last interview ever. He tells the Daily Mail that when his then-3-year-old son Noah was diagnosed with cancer back in 2016, it made him reevaluate all the parts of his life, including the big part of being a world-famous singer. Once he put things into perspective, he wasn’t that interested in being a celebrity anymore.

“It’s been such a difficult exercise. It hurts me, and it hurts to talk about Noah because it s not my story to tell, it’s his. But my whole being’s changed. My perception of life. I don’t know if I can even get through this conversation without crying.”

It seems that his son s illness ignited this realization that he d become fixated on his own success. “I don t have the stomach for it any more. The celebrity narcissism. I started to crumble. But then I started to wonder why I wanted to do this in the first place.”

Now that he’s made this last record one he thinks is “perfect“ , he really doesn’t have any interest in making another.

“This is my last interview,” he says quite solemnly. “I’m retiring from the business. I’ve made the perfect record and now I can leave at the very top.”

Noah is now five and his cancer is in remission. Michael wants to focus on his family, which includes his wife Luisana Lopilato, and their two other children, 2-year-old Elias and 3-month-old Vida. I suppose if he needs some time out of the house, he’s also got that ham and champagne restaurant with Jon Hamm.

However, he might not actually be retiring, and his management team was quick to deny any retirement news. Michelle R. Larson, a digital media manager at Bruce Allen Talent, the company that manages Michael Bubl , posted a message to his Facebook fan page, shutting down the rumor that he’s quitting for good.

“The rumours and reports that Michael is quitting is completely false. We ask everyone to not share any of these tabloid stories and delete any posts already shared to the Buble Insider and personal pages.”

Maybe both Michael and his management team are correct. He’s not completely quitting the music industry all together, he just has plans to focus on another genre, like death metal or EDM. Which means the only thing he’s retiring from is his unofficial position as the voice of a thousand HomeGoods and candle stores. If that’s the case, then someone alert Amy Grant! Get on it, girl – the market is now yours and yours alone.
