Video: Holloway makes weight for UFC 231, fight with Ortega official

Get the Full StoryMax Holloway has made weight for UFC 231 and his fight with Brian Ortega is now official. Max Holloway has pulled out of three fights in the last year, so it was only natural for fans to doubt whether the reigning featherweight champion would make it to the Octagon for UFC 231.

Holloway put those doubts to rest on Friday morning, weighing in at 144.5 pounds for his highly anticipated featherweight title defense against Brian Ortega on Saturday night. Ortega also made weight, hitting the scales at 144.75 pounds.

Holloway was forced to pull out of his original bout with T-City at UFC 226 after demonstrating concussion-like symptoms at the open workouts. Doctors were unable to diagnose the problem but the 27-year-old appears to have made a full recovery and is ready to defend his title against Ortega.

Holloway s last fight was over 12 months ago at UFC 218, where the Hawaiian battered former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo to retain his 145-pound strap at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Holloway will square off with Ortega at the UFC 231 ceremonial weigh-ins later this evening. The pay-per-view takes place tomorrow night, December 8 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
