A group of about 80 LGBTQ individuals has broken off from the migrant caravan.

These individuals decided to travel separately due to discrimination they faced from fellow travelers.

This group will also face a unique set of challenges when they arrive at the US border.

Along with a higher risk of violence, LGBTQ people face the hurdle of proving their gender or sexual identity when seeking asylum.

Among the more than 7,000 people who are part of the migrant caravan a group of Central American refugees fleeing extreme violence in their home countries a smaller group of about 80 LGBTQ individuals has broken off from the larger group.
