Edgar Wright s Next Project Will Be A Psychological Horror Movie

Get the Full StoryHe s the brains behind Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the high-octane thriller Baby Driver, but for his latest gig, writer-director Edgar Wright is venturing into dark and dangerous waters specifically, he s angling his next project to be a straight-up psychological horror.

Via Empire, the movie is said to be inspired by Don t Look Now and Roman Polanski s Repulsion, and will be set in central London presumably in the present day. Further details are being kept under lock and key for the moment, but we understand Wright plans to begin shooting this summer from a screenplay co-written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who is perhaps best known for her work on the Penny Dreadful series. Oh, and it ll feature a female lead, too.

Here s what Wright had to say about the so-far untitled project:

I realized I had never made a film about central London specifically Soho, somewhere I ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years. With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you ve lived in. This movie is about the London I ve existed in.

Currently hard at work on a music documentary, Edgar Wright has been keeping busy ever since Baby Driver screeched into theaters two years ago. As a matter of fact, the prolific filmmaker recently drafted up early plans for a potential sequel to his music-powered hit, which seemingly takes the story further as Debora and Miles reconvene after the latter s five-year prison sentence.

Via Empire:

A first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists, Wright confirms, adding that it introduces a whole swathe of new characters following the original s high body-count, and takes the story further .

So, there you have it. Baby Driver 2.0 is officially in the mix so too is a female-fronted psychological horror from the mind of Edgar Wright. And that, my friends, is exciting in and of itself.
