VanZant vs. Botelho expected for UFC 236

Get the Full StoryA flyweight fight between Paige VanZant and Poliana Botelho is being targeted for UFC 236. Paige VanZant has wasted no time in planning her return to the octagon after her win last month against Rachel Ostovich, as she is expected to face Poliana Botelho in April.

Combate first reported the matchup. Both VanZant and Botelho have agreed to a fight, though it has yet been made official by the UFC. The bout, which takes place at UFC 236 on April 13th, will be at 125-pounds.

After over a year away from the sport due to an arm injury, VanZant 8-4 returned to the UFC last month to defeat Ostovich by second round armbar. 12 Gauge suffered that arm injury in her fight preceding the Ostovich win, a unanimous decision loss against Jessica-Rose Clark in January 2018.

Botelho s 7-2 unbeaten UFC run was snapped by Cynthia Calvillo in November of last year when she was defeated by first-round submission. The 30-year-old was victorious in her UFC appearances before that, defeating Pearl Gonzalez by decision and stopping Syuri Kondo in just 33-seconds at UFC Santiago.

A location and a venue has yet to been announced for UFC 236. A interim UFC middleweight title fight between Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya is expected to headline the card.
