Negotiations were underway for a mega-fight between UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and MMA legend Georges St-Pierre, but the bout fell through for undisclosed reasons.

According to St-Pierre, who announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition at a press conference in Montreal earlier today, the fight just didn t happen.

Rush wished Nurmagomedov the best of luck and credited the undefeated champion as the better fighter right now.

St-Pierre retires as a former two-weight world champion and one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all-time. UFC president Dana White hailed the fan favorite as the biggest Canadian star in MMA.
