Ponzinibbio willing to fight teammates Covington and Masvidal for title shot

Get the Full StoryFor sure, if it s for the title shot, we ll fight man. Top-ten welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio will stop at nothing to become the UFC s next 170-pound champion.

The Argentinian was originally expected to face Kamaru Usman last year, but was forced to pull out of the bout due to injury. Usman eventually went on to win the welterweight title in dominant fashion, battering former long-time champ Tyron Woodley earlier this month at UFC 235.

Ponzinibbio, who is on an impressive seven-fight win streak, can t wait to get his hands on Nigerian Nightmare. But before he gets the chance to fight for the title, the 32-year-old could cross paths with teammates Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington, who are both ranked higher than Ponzinibbio and feel they are deserving of the next title shot.

Speaking to The Body Lock s Michael Fiedel in a recent interview, American Top Team s Ponzinibbio said he would have no problem facing either man in a title eliminator.

No. For sure, if it s for the title shot, we ll fight man. It s a team but it s a dream to each guy. It s good for the gym too, you know? A lot of good contenders and prospects. Before the title, we fight, we know that.

Ponzinibbio, who last fought at UFC Fight Night 140 where he knocked out Neil Magny, is currently without an opponent but would like to face former champ Woodley next.

Maybe I need to fight a top-five guy and I think Tyron Woodley is a good option. It s a good fight, good matchup. I know I can finish anyone in this division. I believe in my power, my work, I work very hard for a long time. I m ready and excited to be back.

This division, I think, is the most exciting division. A lot of good guys, a lot of high-level guys but I m ready to make history. I think Tyron Woodley is a really exciting fight.

Ponzinibbio hasn t lost a fight in over three years and is currently the No. 8-ranked welterweight in the world.
