UFC Rio Rancho results & videos: Weaver gets DQ win

On the UFC Rio Rancho main card, Montana De La Rosa took a unanimous decision over Mara Romero Borella, and Brok Weaver beat Rodrigo Vargas by disqualification. The UFC Rio Rancho card is in progress and the company s #12 ranked flyweight, Montana De La Rosa, just took a unanimous decision over the #13 ranked, Mara Romero Borella. The first round was pretty close, but then DLR ran away with the second and third. DLR has now won four of her last five and continues to climb the ranks at 125-pounds. Before that, UFC newcomer Brok Weaver made good on his debut, but not in the way he had wanted to. His opponent, Rodrigo Vargas, landed a brutal illegal knee as Weaver was sitting down, resulting in the first-round disqualification. Be that as it may, Weaver is now 1-0 inside of the UFC.

Also on the UFC Rio Rancho main card, Ray Borg leaned on his grappling to get the best of the promotion s #7 ranked flyweight, Rogerio Bontorin, on the scorecards. Now, Borg missed weight again , and beat a ranked opponent. Does this mean Borg will get ranked? Time will tell, but regardless, Borg has won back to back fights. Kicking off the main card, Yancy Medeiros and Lando Vannata went the full 15-minutes. The bout wasn t exactly a thriller, but nonetheless, Vannata took the unanimous decision to get himself back in the win column.

Main card:

Montana De La Rosa def. Mara Romero Borella by unanimous decision 30-27 x3 : W Flyweight

Borella came out working her boxing, landing with her right hand. She then caught a kick to take top position, but DLR was quick to get back up. DLR then shot in for a takedown, but Borella showed off strong hips and forced a scramble. DLR worked to the back while standing, and then scored a brief takedown. Borella got up, but DLR was on her back until the bell.

It wasn t long before DLR found the back in the second round. Tons of time went by with DLR controlling and trying to find a way to sink a choke. Borella did not return to her feet. The third act saw a lot more stand up. DLR landed a big right hand that dropped Borella. DLR followed her foe to the ground, inside of the full guard.

Brok Weaver def. Rodrigo Vargas by DQ at 4:02 of round 1: Lightweight

Vargas shot in to achieve an early takedown up against the fence. Weaver threatened with a guillotine, but Vargas managed to escape and maintain top position. Weaver worked his way to his feet, but threatened with a Kimura and ended up on his back again. Vargas then threw an illegal knee to his down opponent, and the referee stepped in to disqualify him. Yikes!

Ray Borg def. Rogerio Bontorin by unanimous decision 30-27 x2, 30-25 : Flyweight

After some feeling out on the feet to kick things off, Bontorin shoved his foe up against the cage. Borg turned the table by exploding and getting a takedown. Bontorin worked back to his feet but Borg took him right back down and kept him there until the bell. Borg attacked a takedown right away in the second round. He quickly transitioned to the back and worked for an RNC. Bontorin stood up with his opponent still on his back. After some time, Borg dropped to his feet and secured another takedown. Borg trapped the arm of his opponent and then elbowed with the trapping arm.

Bontorin clinches up right away in the final round, but got taken down because of it. Borg was able to take the back again, and Bontorin stood back to his foot with a backpack on. The second Bontorin got free, Borg just took him right back down to the mat. Rinse and repeat.

It should be noted that Ray Borg weighed in at 128-pounds

Lando Vannata def. Yancy Medeiros by unanimous decision 30-27 x3 : Lightweight

Vannata came out working his footwork and playing the outside. Medeiros pressured forward, but quickly backed off as Vannata began to attack with crafty entries. Medeiros was quite hesitant, not throwing a ton of volume, mostly because of the unique footwork of his opponent.

The second round saw the same sort of pace as the first. Not a lot was going on. There was a burst of action at the midpoint of the frame as Medeiros landed some clean punches. After another lull, Vannata began to mount some offense. Vannata started strong in the third frame. He landed some clean combos on his opponent before getting back to his elusive footwork. Medeiros struggled to connect, until the final minute of the round. Medeiros started walking down Vannata behind his punches.
