Conor McGregor reflects on his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Conor McGregor believes he was beating Khabib Nurmagomedov on the scorecards up until The Eagle submitted him with a neck crank in the fourth round to retain the lightweight title.

Most pundits gave McGregor round three but, according to the Irishman, he was winning all four rounds except round two, when Khabib dropped him with a massive overhand right.

McGregor, who was dominated and controlled on the ground for most of the contest, believes he outstruck Nurmagomedov and inflicted the most damage out of the two fighters.

The Notorious posted a series of Tweets on Monday evening where he argued his case for being up on the scorecards until the trip in the fourth round.

I won round 1. Out struck him 3 to 1 here. Elbows, knees, clatters. He held on entire round. Round 2 he won. This round had the kimura attempt you speak of. I kneed him full force into his eye socket here and broke the grip fully. A lovely shot!I won 3 also and 4 up until the trip Conor McGregor TheNotoriousMMA October 19, 2020

Damage! Back hands forced him to the fence. Knee into neck as he shot, after 15 seconds of opening bell. Heavy elbow right into his temple as he froze after his shot. Repeated clatters to the temple while he tries his mermaid wrap leg. Rd was 1 pitiful from him. Rd 2 saved him. https: t.co Pu39GeE4kQ Conor McGregor TheNotoriousMMA October 19, 2020

McGregor rebounded from his loss to Khabib with a stunning 40-second TKO of Donald Cowboy Cerrone at UFC 246, and the former dual-division champ is expected to return to the Octagon against Dustin Poirier next year.

Khabib, meanwhile, is scheduled to defend his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 on Oct. 24. The highly anticipated PPV, which features Khabib vs. Gaethje as the main event, takes place at the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
