Mariah Carey s Brother Is Suing Her Over What She Wrote About Him In Her Memoir

Get the Full StoryEven if you haven t read Mariah Carey s memoir you probably already know that her family is an entire mess with a side of extra mess like when you order a milkshake at a cool diner and they give you the little bit of extra in the metal shaker. Only in Mariah s case, they don t even bother with the shaker and just pour that shit right onto the table. In her book The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah wrote about how at age 12, her older sister Alison Carey who was arrested for prostitution in 2016 drugged her and tried to sell her out to a pimp. She also wrote about a violent incident allegedly involving her ex-brother Morgan Carey who TMZ reports is suing Mariah for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Morgan says that Mariah s book damaged his reputation and I guess the only way to repair that is with lots and lots of dollar signs.

TMZ reports:

Morgan Carey claims in new legal docs obtained by TMZ Mariah damaged his reputation when she wrote about an allegedly violent struggle he had with their father, and an alleged attack against their mother, in her 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

According to the suit, Mariah s book includes a passage that reads It took twelve cops to pull my brother and father apart. The big bodies of men, all entangled like a swirling hurricane, crashed loudly into the living room. I was a little girl with very few memories of a big brother who protected me. More often, I felt I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I would find myself protecting my mother from him too.

Mariah detailed another incident involving Morgan in her book writing my brother had pushed my mother with such force that her body slammed into the wall, making a loud cracking sound. Morgan denies that either of these events ever occurred and claims that actual fights with his father never happened when Mariah was a child and that there s no way 12 cops would respond to a domestic violence report. He also says there s no way he would have ever hurt his beloved mother because he loves her. Well, maybe love isn t the right word.

Morgan claims this is another lie he claims tons of folks witnessed the deep affection between him and his mother and he adds, Mariah contradicted herself later in the book when she recounted her mother once saying, Morgan is the only one I love.

What, didn t you know? Domestic violence is never perpetrated against or by loved ones, let alone deeply affectionate ones! Sadly, this isn t Morgan s first time trying to shake Mariah down for money. Morgan acted as Alison s mouthpiece in an earlier attempt to shame Mariah into giving her more money than she already had at the time Mariah claimed she had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars supporting Alison and her children over the years and has supported her extended family for over two decades per The Daily Mail . Here s Morgan talking mad shit about Mariah on a Dutch TV show.

Oh shit, a shoulder wife?!! He must be telling the truth! The Guardian adds:

Morgan s action calls for the payment of unspecified damages, and seeks a judicial determination that many of the passages in the memoir are false and defamatory . It claims the book caused Morgan serious damage to his reputation and to his personal and business affairs and extreme mental anguish , and that it negatively affected negotiations for a feature film he was developing.

Given what we know about Mariah s family, it seems like a lawsuit was inevitable. I m sure her publisher and legal team anticipated as much. But there s not much she can do about the sticky melted milkshake that s all over her burger and fries other than clean it up herself.
