via Variety:

Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne and then it all fell apart. THE COMEBACK GIRL is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon.

Based on the age given, this series will take place in the 1980s, after Joan Rivers was fired from her own talk show, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers, after just two seasons on the air. FOX gave Joan a talk show in 1986 and it was up against The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Joan Rivers had famously been Johnny Carson s chosen permanent guest host of The Tonight Show since 1983. Everyone expected him to retire in 1987 he went on until 1992 , and Joan s name was notoriously absent from a list of Johnny s ten choices for who might succeed him as host. According to late-night TV lore, Johnny Carson was pissed that Joan got her own show on FOX, and according to Joan, he never spoke to her again after that.

Also, Joan s second husband Edgar Rosenberg died by suicide just a few months after FOX fired him and Joan from The Late Show. They had one child together, Melissa Rivers who played her mom in a cameo in Joy . Of course, things got better for Joan. In 1989 she got a daytime talk show, The Joan Rivers Show, which aired for five seasons, and won Joan an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host and was nominated numerous times . In the 90s, she started designing jewelry for QVC, which began her journey as a home shopping icon. Also in the 90s, Joan and Melissa began hosting red carpet commentary for E!, starting with the Golden Globe Awards. They re said to have revolutionized red carpet pre-shows.

Joan died seven years ago after going into cardiac arrest during a routine throat procedure. So, only the ghosts in the afterlife know how Joan feels about this news. Please, Joan, send us a sign! Are you happy with Kathryn? Or has this inspired a 5-minute roast? More like Agatha All WRONG. Listen, Wanda isn t the only one who needs her vision checked the girl looks nothing like me! Listen, those jokes barely work, but be reasonable I m not sure if Joan gets Disney in the afterlife.
