I mean, Glitter N Gold Jem looked like she was butt birthed out by Liberace. She was THAT glamorously luxurious!
The Glitter N Gold line of Jem dolls was based on the Jem and the Holograms masterpiece Glitter and Gold, a hit that became the most-played song in 1987, was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 54 weeks, won the Grammys for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and yes, all of that info is FACT and doesn t only exist in my wildest dreams . Glitter and Gold wasn t just a song. It was an ERA! For the song, Jem and the Hologram slathered themselves in more gold, glitter, and shininess than a stripper at a Jackie Collins-themed strip club. The gold and glitter-covered star of the Glitter N Gold doll series was Glitter N Gold Jem herself seen: above who is really the best dressed at every Met Gala without even going to the Met Gala. Yes, that ensemble is something Alexis Carrington would wear to a casual Friday corporate takeover, but it s still a look of pure timeless opulence. The Gold N Glitter collection from Hasbro also included a Liberace-approved chariot of understated refinement and her boyfriend Rio looking like the gayest bartender at a Solid Gold-themed gay bar. That s the compliment of compliments!
There are a few Gold N Glitter Jems on eBay that are still in the box and they re going for around 100 each. That must be a typo. Each listing is missing at least three zeroes. Because gold is currently going for 1,825 per ounce and a Gold N Glitter Jem is worth much, much, much, much more than that!
