Latest Avengers: Infinity War Set Photo May Be Hiding A Story Clue In Plain Sight

Get the Full StoryTwo days ago, Iron Man himself and all-around Marvel mainstay Robert Downey Jr. shared a photo from the set of Avengers: Infinity War, in which the actor was joined by Benedicts Cumberbatch Doctor Strange and Wong Wong , along with his ol’ science buddy, Mark Ruffalo Hulk .

Taken in between shots, the picture found all four actors enjoying a spot of a lunch and was, for all intents and purposes, fairly unremarkable. But a new report compiled by CBM suggests otherwise. We’ve included the image in question down below for reference, and if you pay particular attention to Robert Downey Jr. and, more specifically, the actor’s torn T-shirt, on first glance it would appear that RDJ’s costume is making room for the arc reactor.

It’s the mechanical heart that has not only powered all of the many Iron Man suits, but it’s also the same device that has kept Tony Stark alive by preventing any remaining shrapnel from entering his heart. Stark actually ditched the device at the tail-end of Iron Man 3 after undergoing surgery, and later used the arc reactor technology to power numerous iterations of the Iron Man suit – including the Mark XLVII set to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming next month.

So, why would Tony Stark require the chest reactor in Avengers: Infinity War? It could well be that a near-fatal incident leaves RDJ’s hero in need of an upgraded chest piece. Or there is the very real chance that today’s report is clutching at straws. It’s a stretch, of course, but we’ll leave you in the company of that image so you can make up your own mind.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Infinity War lights up theaters on May 4th, 2018. It’s shaping up to be a superhero event movie unlike anything we’ve ever seen, but despite rumors to the contrary, it would appear Marvel has no plans to introduce any new characters in Joe and Anthony Russo’s blockbuster sequel. Perhaps Brie Larson’s debut as Captain Marvel will come at a later date?
