Nogueira reacted to the news in an Instagram post Thursday.

A post shared by Rogerio Nogueira minotouromma on Oct 19, 2017 at 12:50pm PDT

I am here to try to clarify because we do not yet have all the explanations, but from now on we will investigate this situation in depth. I have told all of you that I am confident in my defense and we will find out what happened, Nogueira wrote translation via MMAFighting.com .

I have never needed to take a diuretic and everyone who accompanies me mainly my coaches know that I never had any difficulties to lose weight and this is the function of the diuretic, Nogueira continued. As soon as the UFC schedules my fight I will start a process of diet and training precisely so that at the end of my camp I won't suffer with weight loss.

It is very difficult going through this for me as I have always been honest and especially with my work which I have dedicated myself and continue to dedicate myself as it's my passion. Because of this unfortunately my fight was canceled and I was very sad about it all but I hope as soon as possible to clarify this misunderstanding and give you all a spectacular fight.

A USADA spokesperson confirmed in a statement to BloodyElbow.com Thursday that the Brazilian legend tested positive for a diuretic. Per the UFC anti-doping policy, USADA can only disclose the substance a fighter tested positive for after the fighter comments on the failed drug test.

Given that Mr. Nogueira publicly commented on the case, we can confirm that he tested positive for a diuretic stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on September 27, 2017, the statement read. Because this is an ongoing case, we are not going to provide any further details at this time.

In a second statement, the spokesperson confirmed the exact diuretic Nogueira popped for: hydrochlorothiazide, the same substance former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos tested positive for this past summer ahead of UFC 215. Hydrochlorothiazide can be found in over-the-counter painkillers.

Nogueira 22-8 , a 10-fight veteran of the UFC who has also fought for PRIDE FC and Affliction, is 1-3 in his last four Octagon outings. 41-year-old Nogueira, the twin brother of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, last fought in November 2016 and was stopped by Ryan Bader.
