McGregor: Mayweather has pulled out of rematch negotiations

Get the Full StoryConor McGregor decided to clown on Floyd Mayweather a bit on social media. Again. Ever since Conor McGregor entered a boxing ring last August and came up short against Floyd Mayweather Jr., rematch talk has flared up and died down a few different times. It became a thing again in the last few weeks when Mayweather posted videos of himself entering MMA cages. But the idea of McGregor vs. Mayweather 2, especially in the UFC, still seemed highly unlikely.

Over the weekend Floyd was at the NBA All-Star game and was asked by Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie about an MMA rematch with Conor:

Just saw FloydMayweather as I was walking backstage and asked him if he's serious about a rematch with TheNotoriousMMA in MMA: "I already fought Conor, and we're at a basketball game, not an MMA match." Mike Bohn MikeBohnMMA February 18, 2018

It s a total no answer, which is typical of Floyd. But it seems that McGregor got wind of this, and got on Instagram to tell the world that Mayweather has ceased negotiations for a rematch. He also took the time to mock him a bit as well, of course:

I am happy for Floyd and his recent announcement that he is out of these current fight negotiations. It is the reason I never seeked the rematch in the first place. I was happy for him in retirement. My game is a very unforgiving one. It is not like other games. I understand completely him staying retired. I will now carry on in my negotiations and see where it goes. Have a great retirement Junior. Now come here and give your old man a hug for old times sake. I'm proud of you son. Yours truly, Senior. I highly doubt that this is the last we ve heard on this issue. But McGregor will take every opportunity to badger Floyd on social media, that s for sure. Maybe now we can move on to what the world REALLY wants to see - Floyd Mayweather vs. CM Punk in the Octagon.
