Indiana Jones 5 Producer Says The Film Will Have A Global Scope

Get the Full StoryNow that Ready Player One is done and dusted, and the long-gestating Robopocalypse has been handed over to Michael Bay, the great Steven Spielberg has set his sights on Indiana Jones 5. And it’s shaping up to be a very special sequel indeed.

Not only will it mark the first Indy film in almost a decade, but the fifth installment in the beloved franchise will also herald Harrison Ford’s last hurrah as the wry, wise-cracking archaeologist. Thankfully, then, it sounds like the producers have learned from the mistakes of the previous outing and intend on sending the actor out on a high.

Whereas Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was shot almost entirely in the US, Frank Marshall has confirmed that for Indiana Jones 5, they’ll be shooting in numerous countries, with the aim being to give the blockbuster more of a global scope. Much like the older films in the series.

Plot details still remain hard to come by, but we can tell you that George Lucas will have nothing to do with the story, despite having penned all four of the previous movies starring the lovable archaeologist. Considering the last one he wrote was the aforementioned Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, maybe that’s for the best.

In his place, Jonathan Kasdan, son of Raiders of the Lost Ark scribe Lawrence Kasdan and one of the writers responsible for Solo: A Star Wars Story, has been brought on board to pen the sequel. And, should everything go according to plan, he’ll be working from a treatment written by David Koepp, a long-time Spielberg collaborator whose credits include the original Jurassic Park movie.

Unfortunately, Marshall wouldn’t spill much more on the project other than what we mentioned above, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on Indiana Jones 5 as it continues to develop. Spielberg, meanwhile, is currently in pre-production on a West Side Story remake, so it’ll be some time yet before his busy schedule clears for Indy.
