The Lost Boys TV Series Will Star A Gender Swapped Frog Sisters

Get the Full StoryThe idea of a Lost Boys reboot has been floating around Hollywood for the better part of a decade, but it wasn t until last month that The CW confirmed they d be bringing back the horror franchise as a TV show for a new generation.

The project has been pitched as a seven-season, anthology-style series spanning from the 1960s to present day, spearheaded by Rob Thomas Veronica Mars and Heather Mitchell Grey s Anatomy . At the time, it was unknown if the show would be set in the same continuity as the film series, but new details released today seem to establish that it ll follow its own canon. And that s because according to the latest episode of Collider s The Witching Hour podcast, the television reboot will focus on the adventures of the Frog Sisters, a gender swapped version of the film series Frog Brothers.

This wouldn t be the first attempt at a female-centric take on the franchise, as a failed follow-up to the first film titled The Lost Girls was pitched around Hollywood nearly thirty years ago, and rumors of an all-female reboot started to pick up steam after the release of Paul Feig s Ghostbusters.

In a 2016 interview with Movieweb, Corey Feldman, who s appeared in all three of the Lost Boys films as Edgar Frog, expressed his displeasure for a possible female-centric sequel, saying:

After what happened with Ghostbusters, I would veer to stay away from that idea I don t like it. I think when fans want a sequel to their favorite films, they want to see their favorite characters, and their favorite actors playing those characters.

The CW has previously found success with the paranormal investigator sibling formula, as Supernatural has been one of the network s flagship series for the past fourteen years. Just last month, the show hit its 300th episode, an impressive feat in its own right, so the Frog Brothers gender-swap could be viewed as a way for the two series to distance themselves from each other.

As fans will know, the Frog Brothers most recently appeared in 2010 s The Lost Boys: The Thirst, portrayed by Feldman and Jamison Newlander. The direct-to-DVD sequel was slammed by critics and earned a remarkable 0 on Rotten Tomatoes, but perhaps the revamped Lost Boys series will breathe new life into a classic franchise?
