Darlene Love Is Mad That The Producers Of Christmas At Rockefeller Hired Someone Else To Sing Her Christmas Song

Get the Full StoryRock and Roll Hall of Famer and all around musical legend Darlene Love has been dissed! Call your aunties, call your friends, call the authorities, call Patti LaBelle! This cannot stand! Darlene sang background vocals on dozens of hits in the 60s, was more recently featured in the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, and was a staple on Late Night With David Letterman where she performed her holiday hit Christmas Baby, Please Come Home for decades. In a post on Facebook, Darlene called out Brad Lachman Productions for passing her over, yet again, for the chance to sing CBPCH on NBC s annual Christmas at Rockefeller Center special. Instead, she says they invited younger artists who can t even hit the notes properly and are off key to sing her song. She s livid. I m livid. Everybody should be livid. And to those younger artists who just had their ass handed to them by Darlene, give thanks. You ve just been Love d!

According to Deadline:

The 78-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer posted a diatribe on Facebook, complaining that younger performers are always selected to perform her hit Christmas Baby, Please Come Home on the annual special instead of her. The special aired on Wednesday.

This year, Love s hit was performed by Pitch Perfect star Skylar Astin and Glee s Alex Newell, the co-stars of NBC s Zoey s Extraordinary Playlist.

Love s Christmas Baby, Please Come Home was released in 1963. She has performed it numerous times for television, including a regular holiday gig on David Letterman s talk show from 1986 to 2014.

Here s Darlene s Facebook post.

This post is a thing of beauty. The dragging of the youngsters- glorious. The name dropping of her famous friends- masterful. Letting us know she s booked and blessed all the same- stupendous. Signing it Love, MY NAME ALL CAPS EXCLAMATION POINT - That s what they call in the business a Facebook mic drop. Maybe NBC thought her hair was too black, or maybe they were afraid of their own ineptitude, and worried that if they hired Darlene, they d risk a repeat of Patti LaBelle s performance of This Christmas at the 1996 National Tree Lighting Ceremony in DC. Fools! They should be so lucky. Yes, I m using this as an excuse to link my favorite performance of any Christmas song, at any time, in any location in the world, since Jesus Christ himself was born.

But what happened to Patti, would never happen to Darlene. She s been singing Christmas Baby, Please Come Home since 1963. Here s Darlene singing it on The View in 2017. Darlene says she ll be performing it there again this year, noting the producers at ABC treat me very well and with respect. They produce my entire segment, pay my entire band, singers and me too and cover all my expenses. Most other TV shows require ME to pay them 15,000 to 20,000 to perform. Shit, now I m livid all over again.
