One of the more intriguing claims Dugan has made, by the way, is that the Song of the Year category is fixed. Coincidentally, Taylor Swift s up for Song of the Year. Even more coincidentally, she s pulled out of performing at the show tonight.According to Page Six, Taylor was scheduled to perform her new feminist anthem The Man tonight in a surprise appearance. But damn the man, because that ain t happenin .
Swift s appearance on the show had been kept quiet, but insiders say she was set to appear on stage to perform her feminist anthem, which would have packed a powerful punch, given the claims of rampant sexism at the Academy from ousted CEO Deborah Dugan.
Yes, one of Dugan s claims is that the Grammys are crazy sexist behind the scenes. She s even brought up that her predecessor, Neil Portnow, was once accused of raping an unnamed female recording artist. He s responded by saying he was cleared of those accusations. You would think that Dugan s claims and Tay Tay s song would go together like PB & J. That was until, in her fiery Good Morning America interview, Dugan also said that Song of the Year category was fixed in 2019, and, well, consider that Swift s song Lover is nominated this year in that category. Oh oh.
Swift s exit was first reported by Variety, which added, It s unconfirmed whether her quietly bowing out is directly related to the scandal involving the allegations flying back and forth between the Academy trustees and ousted CEO Deborah Dugan.
One music exec noted that Taylor s surprise performance made perfect sense seeing as she has a Netflix documentary to promote.
She s got records to sell, a new documentary to push, said the mover-and-shaker of Swift, who is nominated for three awards including Lover for song of the year. She s got every reason to be out there in front of people.
Dugan said that favoritism and related bullshit swirls around the nomination process and that sometimes nominees are IN THE ROOM when the noms are finalized. Imagine having your voting ballot in front of you and Tay Tay is sitting at the boardroom table across from you, drumming her fingernails and looking at you expectantly? It s like having a pastel-colored gun to your head!
