Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Isn't Official Yet, but It Seems Like a Pretty Safe Bet

Get the Full StoryNetflix's mother-daughter dramedy Ginny & Georgia has made some big waves - some not so good - with its first season, but will there even be a season two? Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry star as a mother and daughter duo whose quirks, relative ages, and small-town lives have drawn comparisons to Gilmore Girls, but the show quickly has taken off in very different directions than that classic drama. The show has only been out for a little over a week, but rumors about its future already are going around: in short, it's looking pretty good so far.

At the moment, Netflix hasn't made an official decision about another season of Ginny & Georgia, which isn't that surprising when you look at how it usually handles renewals for its new shows. It usually takes a minimum of a few weeks or a month for new shows to get a formal renewal announcement from the streamer. Even massive, record-breaking hits, where it's pretty much assumed that there will absolutely be another season, don't get an official announcement quickly: Bridgerton, for instance, didn't get an official renewal announcement until nearly a month after its debut, despite being an instant phenomenon and breaking viewing records.

Ginny & Georgia may not quite be at that level, but it's certainly having enough success that it should easily snag a renewal. In its first week on Netflix, it quickly rose through the rankings to nab the top spot on the streamer's daily rankings. Behind the scenes, it also seems like the creative team have planned for plenty of story to go well beyond the first season.

"Season 1 really did feel like a season 1," creator Sarah Lampert told Oprah magazine. "We just started uncovering some of the layers for all characters, across the board, that we want to dive into. Showrunner Deb Fisher and I are hoping we get the chance." She added that the first season's finale was always meant to end on a major cliffhanger: "We always knew we wanted to build to that cliffhanger. Everything else in the middle was a fun discovery." That cliffhanger, of course, is teenage Ginny's decision to run away, along with her little brother, Austin, while Georgia's shady past threatens to derail her fresh start and her relationship with Mayor Paul Randolph. There's definitely plenty more story to tell, and judging by the strong reception the first season has gotten, we feel pretty confident that another season will come at some point.
