Sean Penn Threatened To Melt Down His Oscars If President Zelenskyy Doesn t Make An Appearance At Tonight s Ceremony

Get the Full StoryThe Oscars are tonight and with ratings getting worse and worse, they re trying to get more people to watch. It was recently announced that the show would have three hosts: Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall. And one of those hosts Amy, of course decided to open her gob to tell the world that she wanted President Zelenskky to appear on the program. You know, Zelenskyy, the same world leader who is in the middle of defending his country! Some rolled their eyes at the suggestion, but there was one person who apparently thought this was a shockingly brilliant idea: Sean Penn! And now he s threatening to harm his very own Oscars if Zelenskyy isn t on the show!

The Oscars haven t even aired and the whole thing has been plagued with stupid stories of flagging ratings, removal of important filmmaking categories, and actors invites being lost in the mail. Now we ve got Sean adding to the mess. If this is a PR scheme by the Academy, I hope it works out for them. While speaking to CNN, Sean threatened to melt his Oscars if the Academy has decided that they don t want to let Zelenskyy speak. via Deadline:

Sean Penn gives the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences an ultimatum regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of the Oscars tomorrow. Penn, who took home the awards for Best Actor for the films Mystic River and Milk, told Acosta that the Oscars must have Zelensky on the program otherwise, viewers and guests should boycott the ceremony.

If it turns out to be what is happening, I would encourage everyone involved, though it may be their moment, and I understand that, to celebrate their films, it is so much more importantly their moment to shine, and to protest and to boycott that Academy Awards. I myself, if it comes back to it, when I return, I will smelt mine in public, Penn said. I pray that s not what happened. I pray there have not been arrogant people who consider themselves representatives of the greater good who have decided not to check in with leadership in Ukraine. So I m going to hope that s not what happened, and I hope everyone walks out if it is.

The Mystic River actor is in the region filming a documentary about the Russian invasion, so the cause is close to him. Even President Zelenskyy has thanked Sean for his support. However, why the Oscars? If we want more people to know about the war then is shouting about it on a program that gets low ratings the way to do it? I m not sure celebrities are aware that their awards show isn t the biggest thing in the world. But I guess we ll have to tune in to the Oscars to see what the Academy has decided and if that means Sean will be playing a self-righteous blacksmith soon!
