Her Mexican-American roots had already influenced much of her musical catalog.
"I have always identified as not this side or that side of the streets that raised me, but the corner where two flags, two cultures, two languages meet," Gomez said in an interview on Today at the time, touching on the ties between her Mexican ancestry and Los Angeles roots.
Now, with a decade-plus-long career under her belt, the singer wants to honor her heritage in all aspects of her life - namely, in her music Gomez's latest LP, "Encuentros," is an even more introspective response to the prior album and partnerships. Most recently, she collaborated with Patr n to celebrate the release of Patr n Cristalino in the United States.
"I feel like my relationship with Patr n, it started before Patr n Cristalino ever existed - it started before Patr n even knew that I existed," says Becky G. "As a Chicana growing up Mexican American, I'm very proud of my Mexican roots; tradition is really important to us. My family and I , we've always been really big fans of Patr n tequila, and it's always been a staple part of my life - my successes, my heartbreaks. Even on a personal level, it's just always been there."
