Why are you rolling your eyes? : Man quits Amazon job on first day after overbearing manager makes life intolerable

Get the Full StorySome jobs can feel pretty dehumanizing. But no matter what, it s important to remember your own value and stand up for yourself when necessary, even if that means standing up against your own manager. That s exactly what one man did after he had a less than perfect first day on the job as an Amazon warehouse worker. Taking to TikTok to share his tale, yosidthekid detailed how day one of his new job at Amazon quickly devolved into hostility between him and his new boss after the matter caught him with his phone in hand. yosidthekid #fyp #amazon original sound SID Given it was Sid s first day you d think there would be a little leniency, but the manager is reluctant to drop the topic after Sid puts his phone away. According to Sid the manager rolled his eyes and when he pointed out his manager s attitude they asked him to sign a piece of paper saying he d been written up for having his phone out. Is this normal for Amazon? The company has become somewhat notorious for mistreating workers. In fact, this exact kind of situation has happened before. In 2023, OSHA issued multiple citations to different Amazon warehouses across the U.S. for failing to keep its workers safe. On top of that, numerous stories from former workers suggest that managers in the past have often prioritized profits over workers and their safety. According to an article from The Guardian, employees were expected to meet a certain production rate and failure to reach that number often leads to write-ups, warnings and a coaching by a trainer. It sounds like a pretty toxic work environment. While these stories are a couple of years old now it s not clear when Sid got his job at the warehouse. An Oxfam report from 2024 noted that conditions were still pretty bad with tons of surveillance and high pressure work environments making life hell for employees. Sid s experience is not uncommon So it seems many workers have had bad experiences with the company. Some people responded to Sid s TikTok, sharing their own horror stories. One person wrote, Hitting 4 years with amazon hes not lying. Another added, my cousin said she left on the 5th hour.. is it that BADDD. However, it seems not everyone has had a miserable experience working for Amazon. Some claimed they had been working for the company for years without much issue. One individual wrote, How do y all have a bad experience with Amazon! I swear, it s my favorite job I ve ever had. They weren t the only one to feel that way either. It seems like it s luck of the draw when it comes to working in an Amazon warehouse, but based on Sid s story I won t be rushing to apply any time soon.
